Oil Consumption - CO2 Emission and Economic Growth
Question: Describe about the Oil exporters MENA would be influenced by Paris concurrence with all the penalty on the oil marketplace facing the confronts of climate alteration and a sluggish oil market? Answer: Introduction In the last 20 years UNFCCC summits, taken place in many cities, worldwide (UNFCCC: Climate Change, 2009). The recent one held in the Paris in 2015 in the month of December. The fundamental mean of this Conference of Parties is to uncover lasting elucidation to the effect or penalty of global warming usually referred to as weather Change through contradictory policy method. As the main reason for global warming is supposed to consequence from the utilization of hydrocarbons in anthropogenic (human-influenced) performance, like as making of lesser energy (Electricity) as well as transportation, counter the question under premised on this preface. Background In 1992, nations joined a universal settlement, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), as a structure for global cooperation to battle climate alteration by restraining average universal temperature also enlarge the resultant climate alteration, and managing with effects that were, by then, predictable. By 1995, nations begin negotiations to reinforce the global rejoinder to climate revolutionize, plus, two years afterward, implemented the Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol lawfully attaches developed countryside Parties to release reduction objective (McLean and Stone, 2012). The procedure first obligation period underway in 2008 and finished in 2012. The next assurance period commenced on 1 January 2013 also, will conclude in 2020.There are currently 196 Parties to the meeting along with 192 groups to the Kyoto Protocol. The 2015 Paris conformity, approve in Paris on 12 Dec 2015, results in the newest step in the development of the United Nations climate alteration command and construct on the exertion undertaken below the conference. The Paris conformity charts a novel course in the worldwide effort to struggle climate transformation. The Paris concurrence seeks to speed up and strengthen the performance and venture essential for a sustainable short carbon outlook (Neeff, 2013). Its chief target is to reinforce the global reaction to the intimidation of climate amend by maintaining an Earths temperature increase this century fine underneath two degrees Celsius over pre-industrial point as well as to practice efforts to bind the temperature to enlarge even advance to 1.5oC. The accord as well targets to intensify the capability of countries to agree on the effect of weather change. To accomplish these determined goals, suitable financial flows, counting by, earlier than 2025, situating a new aim on the stipulation of economics from the USD 100 billion level. Along with an improved capability building structure, will be instated: therefore supporting act by developing nations and the mostly susceptible countries, in order with their personal national aims. The conformity will also improve the precision of the proceed and sustain through an extra vigorous transparent structure. The ignition of petroleum produces a mixture of pollutants like as CO2, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, sulfur dioxide and particulate substance. These impurities are unswervingly and circuitously linked to weather change also public health issues. Since one of these fossil fuels, lubricate has lesser carbon stuff than coal, although extra than usual gas. The transportation segment reported for highest CO2 production followed by the development sector (counti ng refining). In the transportation part, gasoline along with diesel donated the highest percent of the Carbon dioxide emanation. Atmosphere change is a significant confront for the earth. As chief corporations from the oil and gas sector distinguish both the consequence of the weather confront and the effect of liveliness to human life with well-being. The present style of greenhouse gas production is in the surplus of what is essential to bind the temperature increase to not further than 2o over pre-industrial stages. The confront is how to gather larger energy demand through the less Carbon dioxide. Harsh legislation will forever direct todecarbonisation, however, in an atmosphere of enormously fewer energy costs, they may be induced to inefficient investment judgment. The superficiality of carbon-aggravated climate harm will have to be reasoned in if companies are to distribute, as value signals are at present unfortunate (Carbon fix, 2013). This circumstance has spoiled speculation in spotless energy also makes it extra intricacy to change customer behavior. Oil generating nations are currently foreseeing a complete phase-away of remnant fuels in the approaching decades, also are consequently quickening to abandon as more easy-admittance economical oil in the marketplace, though there is yet purchased slightly than sluggish production to maneuver prices and spending low-priced withdrawal of new ways. In recent times six main oil corporations viz BP, Royal Dutch Shell, Saetre entire have written an letter to Minister of Foreign, Laurent Fabius as well as Christiana Figueres from France, who is Executive Secretary (ES) in the UNFCCC. By stating that, they can acquire earlier climate act, if administration offer even tougher carbon pricing plus ultimately connection it every up into a worldwide structure that places a correct cost on the ecological and financial expenses of greenhouse gas production. That pose to commence carbon pricing scheme where they dont so far survive at the general or local stages, make an worldwide structure that could ultimately attach national structure. Following Paris weather accord, Saudi Arabia, demonstrating the Arab concern group, prepared a concise statement to applaud the whole planet for having attained the momentous gathering, which had a well stage of stability. That approached after abundant media information indicts Saudi Arabia of demanding to obstruct the consultation. Paris weather agreement is particularly trying to bound utilization of fossil fuel counting oil, which symbolizes the source of proceeds for oil sells overseas countries. Simultaneously, Middle-East and North Africa (MENA) statesare being sturdy hit by weather alteration, which Paris accord is efforting to hold. Tackle by the challenges interests in a booming international oil market also minimum weather alteration impact, oil dealers made the right plus hard decision of amalgamation Paris agreement. However, that is not sufficient.Mainly oil dealers inMENA area need restructuring to stop diminish oil subvention andexpand their financial systemby developing more business atmosphere and developmentmodernization. Wealth diversification is along-lasting procedure that can regularly reduce oil reliance and grow an adjustment for the advantage and affluence of their prospect invention. Oil Exporting Nations Paris Environment Change Conference Energy or Power policies of MENA, oil selling to overseas nations would be influenced as they united to the Paris Concurrence, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) convention (The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Oil Exporters After the Global Crisis, 2012). Formerly, oil exporting countrieshave always opposed any global rule that would bound the utilization of it. They have earlier been accounted to block endeavor to move in the direction of stringent warming goals as well as have repeatedly stressed gas and oil as part of the resolution to climate alteration. However, this situation has changedsteadily in the past some years as the effect of climate variation started to turn into more visible in the area. Most MENA nations is endangered by climate modification or change. Reduced rainfall, hotter summers, desertification, a smaller amount water run-off from peaks sheltered in snow, as well as more repeated droughts are possible to disrupt cultivation, wh ich occupies more than 35% of the workforce of MENAs (Khatib, 2014). Paris Accord The International Energy Market Apprehensions of climate transformation are altering the international energy market. The Paris climate alteration accord proposes that the globe is more devoted than before to toggle their economies by keeping themselves away from oil. Furthermore, more strict carbon management may develop later to convene Paris agreement objectives. According to the conformity, reassess of carbon stockpile will take condemn after five years, the timeline for upgrading and reconsidering of obligations in every duration of five years is as well established, and an initial stocktaking will projected for 2018. While, currently intended contributions as affirmed in the(INDCs) or Intended Nationally Determined Contributions are not sufficient to convene with Paris agreement aims; they are supposed to escort to 2.6 deg increase (Rose, Wei, and Bento, n.d.). So, more rules will be required to attain the objective of below 1.5 or 2 degrees as decided in Paris. The gatherings note that a lot greater emanation s reductions will be mandatory. Also, current worldwide carbon production is dawdling moreover, are expected to peak before 2030. Whereas, developed countries are already ahead of their peak emanations. In 2015, in the month of November, the blueprint was unconfined to decrease US emissions with the extent to a 28 percent by 2025 by White House. Even China, the major producer of carbon, has vowed that its emissions of carbon would pinnacle by the year 2030 as according to INDC of China (He, 2015). However, that may appear even earlier. Thus, there is increasing evidence that culmination of oil requirement may take place even former than 2030 to convene the objective of no further than 2 degrees temperature rise as in Paris Concord, with important influence on the international oil market. Ending Of Oil-Dependence For MENA Oil Exporters Trade as customary is not an alternative for oil exporting nations. Revenues from oil selling to abroad are supposed to stay approximatelyat well under their present fiscal requirements, let alone economics future development. Currently, their economic deficits are at documentation peak. The augment in a multiplicity of oil delivery and a decline in manufacture costs could considerably cut oil selling to other countries, from MENA nations. As According to OPEC, the likely requirement in 2020 from OPEC will be approximately 1 million BPD fewer than their active creation (Oil demand and transportation: an overview, 2015). Conversely, MENA nations are in frantic need of financial growth as well as new service. Inferior revenues will ultimately force administrations of oil exporting states to appoint fewer community servants. According to the IMF local Economic viewpoint Middle East and Central Asia, in the GCC 2015 (apart from the UAE), further 2 million states are likely to link with the employees by 2020. As well as the World Bank has previously estimated the requirement for a 100 million occupation opportunities to be formed in the MENA area by the year 2020 (Shebeb, 2015). Also, current rules of gas and oil subsidies in the area are not appropriate or sustainable also it significantly distorting the liveliness of market. In the year 2013, according to working paper of IMF, energy rules in the MENA area (plus Pakistan and Afghanistan) summed total $ 350B, which surpassed GDP by 10% and symbolized 30% of entire or overall revenues (International Monetary Fund, 2014). Such endowments were accountable for escalating energy strength in MENA area during the years between 2000 2012, whereas it was declining globally at a typical annual pace of 2.5% (Raben and Snip, 2014). Progressing on a trail of elevated energy grants whereas, revenues are nearly flat with elevated economic shortages at a time of robust requirement for more employment and growth are all signs that existing strategies are not sustainable. Issues And Challenges Facing By Oil And Gas Industry Economy demystification away from fuel-dependence is necessary for MENA oil transporting states.Although mainly in the oil-generating MENA nations, has embarked upon a strategy of financial diversification, not much has been attained excluding for the United Arab Emirates, which is an apparent accomplishment story in economic diversification (Chortareas, Cipollini, and Eissa, 2011). Every other oil transporters in the MENA section are reliant on oil with altering degrees through Iraq being the major (Bhattacharyya and Blake, 2010). Furthermore, the oil division is considered by being capital-concentrated as well as produce limited express service which builds it not as much attractive to the states future wants. The civil sector is extremely dependent on management spending also wishes to turn into self-dependent throughout increased aggressiveness in auxiliary markets. The input to monetary diversification is the formation of business pleasant atmosphere to promote personal division and overseas development reserves. A further important planthat promotes diversification is accepted modernization jovial strategy. Concentrating on fostering improvement, not just capitalizes on the area person resources, however, also develop the competitiveness of confined commerce for equality, the limited marketplace and sell overseas, therefore, help to reduce dependence on economic strategy. Moreover, local modernism is a significant asset to acclimatize to weather change, which can make local green manufacturing. Local advancementin green cooperations can guide a base up the procedure of testing and modification in technology, supremacy, and standards. Economy demystification of oil transporting MENA nations away from lubricating reliance appears the only sensible response to existing confronts (Al-Nahleh and Al-Zaubi, 2011). Developing a business atmosphere as well as progress, innovation is meant to feature a diversity. Even though many countries commencing policies to expand their financial system, just the UAE can maintain accomplishment. Others require to pursuing. Conclusion Oil exporters MENA would be influenced by Paris concurrence with all the penalty on the oil marketplace facing the confronts of climate alteration and a sluggish oil market (Al-mulali, 2011). They must follow existing actions to hasten efforts to expand the financial system away from entire oil reliance, which can be accomplished by eliminating/ reducing gas and oil subsidies, recuperating business situation and development of conjugal improvement. Diversification of Economy is a dawdling course that needslong years of development in the sectors of non-oil.Continuance on existing economic trails for the majority of MENA states is merely not sustainable. Examine the Argument That ââ¬ÅGood Fences Make Good Neighboursââ¬Â free essay sample
The argument in the title highlights the fact that no matter how close you are to a neighbour, both physically and personally, there is always a need for privacy. As mentioned by Jovan Byford, (Byford, 2009, p. 251) there is a paradox in the fact that neighbours are expected to be a community of people living together but at the same time everyone wants -and expects- their own space. The rules of engagement for a neighbour are an intrinsic characteristic built into us from our own experiences, and we act on them almost automatically. Byford illustrates this in his transcript of a conversation he had himself with a neighbour and his use of discursive pschology(Byford, 2009, pg. 257). It is a simple exchange of words in which both parties follow the unwritten rules of being a neighbour when an event, in this case, a mis-directed package, bring the two together. The conversation is immediately recognisable to any who have been in a similar situation, the neighbour apologises for being intrusive, and in doing so recognises the authorââ¬â¢s personal space, and neither send out an invitation for the other to make the exchange any more than it is. We will write a custom essay sample on Examine the Argument That ââ¬Å"Good Fences Make Good Neighboursâ⬠or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Both parties are recognising the boundary, or ââ¬Å"fenceâ⬠that is in place to prevent an invasion of privacy. The exchange is not premeditated to go ahead like this, it is just a skill that has been learnt through experience. In her work, Social psychologist Elizabeth Stokoe (Stokoe, cited in Byford, 2009, pg 264), examined what happens when these rules break down. Her focus was that of sound complaints stemming from sexual intercourse. This presented problems not just for the accused, but for the accuser. In the transcript taken from the man who made the complaint he preceeded by by making sure he wasnââ¬â¢t viewed in a negative way by pointing out that he was a good neighbour who adhered and respected the social rules. If he werenââ¬â¢t to do this, then he himself may have been accused of being a nosy neighbour, thus being neglectful of the rules. He most likely adopted the defensive form as naturally as the Byford and his neighbour carried out their dialogue. This breakdown of societyââ¬â¢s rules needs repairing, and in cases like this, the reparation comes from a form of mediation. Usually, the matter can be resolved without having to call in a third party, a simple apology can acknowledge that someone was in the wrong and that they are didnââ¬â¢t act as appropriate as a neighbour should. On other occasions, a third party has to be called in to settle disputes, when things such as noise, boundaries, planning etc are blurring the boundaries of how the rules are interpreted (Byford, 2009. pg 263). This is just another way of maintaining the order that the rules of neighbouring create. The third party is an arbitrary outsider who reinforces how the rules operate, though it is still up to the involved parties to make a decision about where the ââ¬Å"fenceâ⬠is placed. A study in Manchester in 2004 suggests that most of ââ¬Å"neighbouringâ⬠occurs in public or over a physical structure (as in a real fence) and that even the interviewees who reported visiting neighbours in homes were aware of ââ¬Å"over-neighbouringâ⬠, and it was polite to be seen to respect the hostââ¬â¢s right to privacy by limiting time spent at their home (Byford, 2009, p. 255). These rules arenââ¬â¢t the same the world over, in fact they can be strikingly different in some places. The Anthropologist, Stanley Brandes, travelled to Becedas, a small village in Spain in the 1970ââ¬â¢s to study how traditional life was being affected by the process of modernisation (Byford, 2009, pg 259). His initial observations revealed that there didnââ¬â¢t seem to be such a concept as ââ¬Å"over- neighbouringâ⬠there. Instead, the whole village came and went as in and out of each others houses as they pleased. ââ¬Å"Neighbours entered our houses without hesitation and] took us under their wings to such an extent that we felt as if we had been initiated into a large family. â⬠(Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009, p. 260). So to Brandes, it must have felt alien, with no clear boundaries and everyone involved in everyone elses lives to a household degree. He notes that they seemed to have a ââ¬Å"Pathological fearâ⬠of privacy (Brandes, cited in Byford, 2 009, p. 260). However, as he spent time there, he came to realise that the village was not so much an extended family society, but a big brother society fuelled by mistrust. The fences had been removed in order to make sure that no one was cheating another and that there were no schemes afoot. The villagers were poor, so they ââ¬Å"assumed that if a person could get away with with it, he will engage in almost any activity to further his own well-being â⬠(Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009, p. 261). This is an example where perhaps the ââ¬Å"fencesâ⬠could make living conditions less stressful. Looking at these examples, it is clear to see where the hypothetical (and physical) fences have their uses. According to Erving Goffman, people will behave in a way that tells others how they wish to be interacted with (Taylor, 2009, pg 172), so this projection must carry within itself a boundary to those who see it. When Kate Foxââ¬â¢s person in a front garden is approached (Byford, 2009, p. 256) using Goffmanââ¬â¢s theory, perhaps it is only right to assume they must be emanating an aura of approachability, otherwise they are not complying with the unwritten rules of being a neighbour.

Bus 174 Commentary
Bus 174 Commentary Introduction Directed by Jose Padilha, Bus 174 is a fascinating documentary published in 2002 in Brazil. It includes people like Sandro, Williams, Luciana, among others. Sandro is a street boy who hijacks a bus, demanding to kill the passengers, a case that forces their journey to stand still for four hours. Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Bus 174 Commentary specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The media collect this information. During the event, the police force fails to turn up in time, a situation that gives the street children a good opportunity to harass and steal from the passengers. This movie gives the findings of Padilhaââ¬â¢s research on the situation of media and traffic in Rio de Janeiro basing on how the two responds towards the hijacking. Street children are all over the city, some begging and stealing while others are harassing the innocent people. Neither police nor media is interested in assisting . Bus 174 provides a picture of the level of poverty in the city through the street children who had parents and relatives but now are alone to feed and sustain themselves. This on the other hand sets clear the reason as to why the kids have turned to robbers. The documentary aims at portraying the life of those living in slums in Brazil. It also shows mistreats of the poor by the government. Padilha is interested in knowing Sandroââ¬â¢s motives behind the hijacking where he searches the information from the present as well as previous street kids. He also questions the police, family members, not neglecting sociologists to gather clear reasons. This film finds out the background of Sandro as a representative of all Brazilian street children. It explores the kind of police Brazil has, who participate in crimes rather than nurturing peace, love, and harmony. Many people have set out to comment the movie and among them is Soares. This overview tackles the relationship between his ideas and the current global state of street children as well as what is being done to meet their needs.Advertising Looking for essay on art and design? Based on what Sandro does to the passengers in the bus, Soares views him as an illustration of the kids neglected by their parents. He says that they end up accumulating pain as a result, which later is poured to other people inform of fighting. In response to this comment, Erving (1963) portrays how neglected people, not necessarily street kids, express their pains and how they use it to communicate to those available to cater for their unattended needs. An example from the movie is seen when Sandro points a gun to a pregnant mother shooting her to death. Soares goes on to comment about the reason for their violence (Padilha, 2002). Any sound mind person expects love; he/she needs to be felt by the society and expects no discrimination based on race, religion, or finance. This is what Soares gives as another reason, generally given by all, who end up lacking the aforementioned requirements. He says that they do this because of the stigma attached to them. According to Heatherton, Kleck, Hebl, and Hull (2000) this category of people experience negligence and are prone to attacks, a situation that presses them forcing them to show it through reactions .Soares comments that these children are usually fighting against invisibility. This simply shows how they a treated as if they do not exist. They view the society as feigning blind when they meet them. They pretend not to understand that these are children like any others and ought to be taken care of. Their fight serves to open the eyes of the society to see their sufferings and their need of attention. For instance, in the movie, the young and poor Sandro watched his mother murdered. There was none to see and respond towards the incidence (Brussat Brussat, 2009). Therefore, in retaliation, Sandro engages in violent acts because just like any other neglected child, he believes that it is only through force that the invisibility aspect can be arrested. They have at the back of their minds that they are valuable and important but none seems to realise this and this is what they want to instil to the concerned people. They are hungry, not only for food but for love and social interaction that the society ought to give. They have been quiet hoping common sense will do it all only for them to realise that it is through raising alarms inform of violence that the ears and eyes of the society will be opened for them.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Bus 174 Commentary specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Current global trend of street children Ranselà ¢â¬â¢s research provides the world news about street children. He has given the estimates of the number of the street children in various countries of the world. For instance, Yemen registers an approximate of 30,000 street children (Ransel, 1998). It goes further to give the factors thought to influence the number, not only in Yemen but also through out the entire world. Poverty, lack of jobs, inadequate socialization, governmentââ¬â¢s failure to intervene the situation of orphans, among others plays a major role in raising the number of these children. Street children have the right of attention by the government but on the contrary, the government views them as sources of embarrassment and pays no attention to them. As poverty increases day by day, the number of those going to the streets also goes up with the children opting to beg in order to sustain their deteriorating lives. This is in accordance with soareââ¬â¢s idea that they feel neglected by the rest, including the government. The current global economy is in crisis. All countries are running short of finance to run their businesses. As a result, retrenchment cases are being reported everywhere with parents of large families leaving jobs. Any home with no source of income is subject to conflicts. Charles (1855) says that these conflicts end up breaking the families and as a result, the children suffer inadequate parental care and guidance. They enter their nearby towns yearning for socialization, food, and parental attention. To take care of these, they venture into businesses like drug trafficking, prostitution, as well as stealing. This happens because people view them as dirty, cannot allow them in their homes, and not worthy of assistance. Soares got it right when he said that these children are stigmatised and suffer a lot as a result. Death of parents though diseases, accidents, or old age has also been viewed by the globe as a major cause of the increasing number of not only stree t children, but also children at large. It has been shown that places prone to diseases register the largest number of children at risk. Impact of the view of invisibility of street children on programme development Following the efforts made by the children in fighting against invisibility, the world has responded through various ways. It has come up with suitable criteria that, if well managed, can help rid the issue of street children. Statistics show that in all the countries, children at risk are the minority but the number is gradually increasing. Advertising Looking for essay on art and design? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More This has called for a quick action from the government to curb the matter before it worsens. It has seen the importance of recognising them just like theirs. Organizations, not only governmental but also non-governmental have stood out to address the requirements of street children, some of which have proven effective. Media is one of the key means of responding to the battle. Any scenario that abuses the rights of children is aired immediately and stern actions taken against the abuser boosting respect between other people and the children. This is clear in the movie where the hijacking event channels to televisions, which in turn alerts the police force (Hayden, 2009). Other programmes have been established to prevent the children from adopting the street life. These include family care and free education programmes. Other programmes have set out to specifically deal with those children who had gone through sexual, physical, or drug abuses. These offer rehabilitation services to the children helping them recover from the harassments. Some Non-Governmental-Organizations have set up programmes that assemble the children in homes managed by the organizations. In these homes, the children have people, paid by the organization, who attend to them on a day-to-day basis. These people provide them with food, shelter, clothing, and education, among others. Others extend their services by following up and counselling those who have recovered and gone back to their original homes. Medical programmes have also been set in place to check the health of the children. By so doing, they are able to prescribe the necessary feeding habits of the children. Outreach programmes have not been left out. They aim at maintaining close relationship between the organization and the children. Conclusion Bus 174 is a documentary that is heavy laden with lessons, not only for the Brazilian, but also for all in general. Following the hijacking of the bus by a boy from a poor family bac kground, it is open that the incidence is a way of communicating to the world and applies to the oppressed, neglected, and the stigmatised. It is experienced by all countries and is commonly portrayed by street children. It has been proved effective since it has opened the ears and eyes of a variety of agencies devoted to caring the children. This on the other hand, has lowered cases of theft, drug abuse, and sexual harassments. Reference List Brussat, F., Brussat, M. (2009). Bus 174. New York. Charles, D. (1855). Nursing Education Systems of Ireland and China Essay
Nursing Education Systems of Ireland and China - Essay Example In 1998, the Report by Irelandââ¬â¢s Commission on Nursing presented a strong argument for enhanced education of nurses. This paved way for initiation of a degree program in nursing in 2002 and improvement has been taking place since then (Oââ¬â¢Dwyer, 2007). Unlike in Ireland where development of nursing education started in the 1970s, in China, nursing education started developing early, following the arrival of Western missionaries in the year 1842 (Xu, Xu, & Zhang, 2000). By the year 1915, the country had an examination framework for certification of professional nurses. This was followed by introduction of a bachelorââ¬â¢s nursing degree programme in 1920, which was the first of its kind in Asia (Smith, 2004). Significant development followed thereafter with establishment of a government-sponsored nursing school being established in 1930. Development of nursing education in China continued until the year 1949, when government was taken over by the Communist party. This led to the abolishment of all nursing education beyond the secondary level. The remnant programmes comprised of three year training courses, after nine years in primary and intermediate academic levels. However, after the collapse of the Communist party government in 1977, gradual improvements started taking place. Bachelor degree nursing education was re-introduced in 1983 and significant milestones have been attained by China ever since (Xu et al., 2000). Government and Nursing Organizations Just like in other nations, Ireland and China have both governmental and non-governmental organizations that work to ensure that nursing education is comprehensive and sustainable. For instance, in Ireland, it was an organization named Irish Matronsââ¬â¢ Association (IMA) that commissioned the original report regarding improvement of nursing education in 1970 (Joyce, 2000). There is also the Irish Nursing Board (INB), which further stimulated discourse regarding the future of Irish educatio n in the nursing profession. The Irish Practice Nurses Association (IPNA) has also contributed significantly to the growth of nursing education and practice. Other Irish organizations that have played a crucial role in recommending and advocating for advanced nursing education and practices include the Irish Nurses Organization (INO) and Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA). The Irish government also collaborates with other member nations of the European Economic Community (EEC). It is this affiliation to the EEC which ensures that Ireland adheres to general nursing education guidelines and recognition of nursesââ¬â¢ qualifications among member states (Oââ¬â¢Dwyer, 2007). Presently, the Chinese Nursing Association (CNA) is recognized as the principal professional body for nurses in the country. The organization unites, develops and promotes nursing in all aspects, including advocating for nursesââ¬â¢ workplace rights and education opportunities (Smith, 2004). The Chinese go vernment also collaborates with international bodies like the World Health Organization (WHO), Project Hope and Heart to Heart, among others to ensure that it works towards establishing comprehensive university education programs for nurses. These organizations ensure that Chinese nurses are well-equipped in terms of experience, prior learning and knowledge of treatment strategies specific to Chinese culture (Xu et al., 2000). Current System of Nursing Education It is rather evident that nursing educ

Emeregency Management (Basic Quantitative Methods) Essay
Emeregency Management (Basic Quantitative Methods) - Essay Example Since health effects are included in the scope of consequences, then it may be said that as per ASME specifications, severity of injuries would have been included as part of the assessment of risk as early as the asset characterization stage. Other ASME literature makes further reference to severity, this time in direct relationship to fatality or injury, an illustrates with a table of ââ¬Å"severity rankingâ⬠. In this ranking scale, S5 (ââ¬Å"Very Highâ⬠) specifies ââ¬Å"offsite fatalities and multiple onsite fatalitiesâ⬠; S4 (ââ¬Å"Highâ⬠) is the ââ¬Å"severity rank for the possibility of onsite fatalities as well as offsite injuriesâ⬠; S3 (ââ¬Å"Mediumâ⬠) is allocated to the absence of ââ¬Å"fatalities or injuries anticipated offsite, but with the possible widespread onsite serious injuries.â⬠S2 (ââ¬Å"Lowâ⬠) is designated for ââ¬Å"onsite injuries that are not widespread but only in the vicinity of the incidentâ⬠; and S1 (ââ¬Å"Very Lowâ⬠) is associated with ââ¬Å"possible minor injury onsite; no fatalities or injuries anticipated offsiteâ⬠(ASME, 2006:28). Such a ranking would lead one to reason, therefore, that indeed RAMCAP would allow for the cons ideration of severity of injuries anticipated in a possible incident. Smith (2006, April), presenting the case for the U.S. Department of Homeland Securities, is inclined to agree with the ASME. On the other hand, a more careful reading of the Cox (2008) article, as already mentioned, specifically stated RAMCAP does not consider severity of injuries (p.1750), although it does allow for the ââ¬Å"severity of possible adverse consequencesâ⬠(p.1755). Cox argues that there are serious limitations of ââ¬Å"severityâ⬠in the RAMCAP model, which essentially requires the estimation of all factors in quantitative terms. First limitation is that there is ââ¬Å"no objective certainty-equivalent for uncertain

An Overview Of Territoriality Sociology Essay
An Overview Of Territoriality Sociology Essay Creating territories and physical boundaries within buildings and public spaces, is termed as hierarchy of a defensible space. The conversion from private to public space is important and demands efficient management. Through the sub division of zones (private to public), the character of ones own territory is defined and thereby managed. Private space An area under total control of the occupant, and not physically connected to the public Semi private space An area under the control of the occupant, but visually and physically accessible by the public Semi public space An area accessible to the public, and under the control of a specific group of occupants. Public space An area for the public Territoriality therefore defines the hierarchy of the space, and develops the idea of having ones own territory. This discourages outsiders from entering into private zones and reduces the risk of anonymity. This can be achieved if the following design features are implemented in the planning process (Colquhoun, 2003, 41) All the spaces inside as well as outside the building should be under natural surveillance by the residents and under their influence. All the external spaces should be seen as public spaces and should be clearly demarcated from the internal spaces with the help of symbolic barriers like gates, fences, walls, levels, steps, gateways etc. If the housing density is high, separate staircase entrances should be designed per building block so that there should be no confusion in recognizing a stranger. External communal areas such as parks, green open spaces should be in the vicinity of the building and where ever possible should be entered from the private zone. Surveillance Positioning and locating the windows and doors such that it increases surveillance to the outside surrounding. Opportunity to commit crime is potentially reduced when the offender senses that he/she is under constant surveillance from the adjoining buildings. Surveillance helps to create a feeling of security by providing the residents with their own territory and defending it through the overlooking windows, doors and entrances to the outside surroundings. Windows should be positioned such that it suits the internal plan of the house as well as provides surveillance to the outside surrounding. Front entrances of the buildings should be designed from the main road, main streets and pedestrian areas so that the passerbys can notice anything strange which helps in reducing the risk of anonymity. The communal areas of the buildings such as staircases, elevators etc should be designed where they can be visually connected to the outside surrounding. The rooms which are used more frequently like the kitchen and living rooms should be designed with their windows facing the public domain while bedrooms and toilets should be designed facing the private domain. Image This idea explains the proper use of materials and architectural design which reduces the feeling of being stigmatised, which creates a sense of isolation increasing the vulnerability of crime risk. To avoid building forms and layouts which completely stand out from the rest of the neighbourhood, makes it vulnerable by increasing the footfall of strangers by attracting them. Keeping the high rise and high density blocks away from the low income houses, as a mix of both can lead to criminal activities Encouraging the use of robust and attractive finishes to the building surfaces, preventing them from being vandalised. Milieu The juxtapostioning of residential areas with other facilities which helps in improving security and provides means for natural surveillance. Housing facilities should be mixed with social and commercial facilities to improve natural surveillance through increased footfall. Parks, playgrounds and open spaces should be designed around residential areas thereby offering constant natural surveillance.

Language of Hysteria Essay
During the 1690s, there was a mass hysteria due to beliefs of the existence of witches. With this fact came the Salem Witch Trials which occurred in Salem Village, Massachusetts. A young child began to exhibit abnormal behaviour and so she was taken in to be examined, they found nothing that could cause her to behave in such a manner. The entire village began to panick and started praying to God to get rid of evil. Conspiracies began to take rise in the village that made the villagers believe that there were witches in their village. Three women were accused of having relations with the Satan. Accusations grew larger and soon there were people who were tried and were killed. These events led to the Salem Witch Trials. The hysteria grew and began to worry people of high standings and soon the assumptions of witchcraft ended. Due to misconceptions and assumptions the Salem Witch Trials began. During the 1930s there was a mass hysteria of alien invasions. This became known as the War of the Worlds radio broadcast sent out by Orson Welles. Welles adds in effects that could cause the people to go into a state of panic. He got the idea from H. G. Wellsââ¬â¢ novel The War of the Worlds. Bad timing became the cause of this mass hysteria. Due to the fact that during those times many people had radios and most families were listening to popular shows and by the time they got to Wellesââ¬â¢ they were not able to listen to his introduction. They heard music being interrupted and surprising news of explosions and other sounds that exemplify an alien invasion. The people that tuned in to the radio broadcast late misunderstood and developed a fear and this one of the many causes of the mass hysteria in the 1930s. During the 1690s and the 1930s there mass hysterias like the Salem Witch Trials and the War of the Worlds radio broadcast that caused people to go into panic. These panic attacks were due to misconceptions and misunderstandings. The connection between these two mass hysterias is that the people misunderstood in both situations and caused them to start to panic. These two events have the common factor of how the events occurred.
